From tree lighting ceremonies to holiday markets, the winter festivities in NYC are downright magical. And we’d have to say, the crown typically goes to Saks Fifth Avenue’s holiday windows and light show!
Although the retailer will be unveiling its holiday window display this season, the annual Saks Fifth Avenue Holiday Light Show has been cancelled in 2024. For the store’s 100th anniversary, the brains behind the operation wanted to switch things up. Read on for everything we know.
What is the Saks Fifth Avenue holiday windows & light show?
The Saks Fifth Avenue holiday windows and light show have been an annual tradition for years. Considering there are celebrity guests at the unveiling — like Elton John in 2022 and Jennifer Lawrence in 2023 — and fireworks, it’s safe to say this tradition has made its way on to many New Yorkers’ and visitors’ winter bucket list.
When will Saks Fifth Avenue’s holiday windows be unveiled?
The Midtown tradition of decadent holiday windows were unveiled on November 25th. They have been adorned with gold, glittering lights and each features gorgeous clothing from the world’s most famous brands, all part of its “Gifts of Delight” campaign, which asks shoppers to rethink how they consume during the holidays.
“Saks’ holiday windows will showcase outstanding pieces from the top names in luxury set against colorful snowflake fragments, dichroic vinyl and silver harlequin flooring,” a statement read. “These visual motifs are replicated inside the store, where customers can explore the Saks Holiday Market on the main floor for ornate decorations and festive gifts for everyone on their list.”
It adds, “As a leading luxury destination, and in our 100th year, we are focused on delivering a memorable holiday shopping experience and spreading joy through new, only-at-Saks offerings and an expertly curated assortment from the most sought-after brands in fashion.”
The light show, however, will not take place this year.

What were some of the Saks Fifth Avenue holiday windows’ themes?
In 2023, “a massive celestial tableau was the centerpiece of the facade, showcasing signs of the zodiac and Dior’s house codes, like the star and clover,” while the windows were a collab between the store and the brand to bring a bit of Parisian culture into NYC.
The 2022 windows were inspired by both special gifts from years past and the partnership with The Rocket Fund. Rocket ships and nostalgic games were seen within the six windows, creating scenes that were best described as “whimsy” and full of “brilliant colors.” You can check out photos of last year’s windows online.

How many lights were in the Saks Fifth Avenue light show?
The 2023 light show featured more than 300,000 LED lights on the 10-story-tall facade of the building.
How long are the Saks Fifth Avenue holiday windows on display?
The dazzling holiday displays are normally on view through the beginning of January at the Saks Fifth Avenue New York flagship.

What else can I see on Fifth Avenue this season?

Although it might feel a bit unusual on Fifth Avenue this holiday season, there’s still plenty to look forward to.
For one, a 30-foot, 3,300-pound snowflake with 16,500 individual crystal prisms will glisten above the avenue between 58th and 59th Streets beginning November 22nd.
Additionally, Fifth Avenue will go car-free for its epic public, birthday bash on Sunday, December 8th.
“This year, we’re celebrating more than just the holiday season—we’re honoring 200 years of Fifth Avenue by transforming it into a destination that reflects its rich history while offering unforgettable experiences for everyone to enjoy,” said Madelyn Wils, Interim President of the Fifth Avenue Association. “From our must-attend birthday celebration to our unique seasonal decor we’re inviting New Yorkers and visitors from around the world to experience the charm and beauty that makes Fifth Avenue truly one-of-a-kind.”
