Though the 2024 Saks Fifth Avenue lightshow has been cancelled, visitors can still head to Fifth Avenue for some holiday magic, whether it’s to peek at the enormous Rockefeller Center Christmas tree that arrived over the weekend or gape at the illuminated Fifth Avenue Snowflake that has been shining each holiday season since 1984.
This year marks the snowflake’s 40th anniversary in New York, as Fifth Avenue simultaneously celebrates its bicentennial. So maybe there won’t be a White Christmas here in NYC, but at least we’ll get to see a 30-foot, 3,300-pound snowflake with 16,500 individual crystal prisms twinkling over the famous boulevard!
The Fifth Avenue Snowflake Foundation’s illumination ceremony will take place on Friday, November 22, beginning at 5:30pm. Anchor Shannan Ferry will host the event, alongside famous Chef Daniel Boulud, Chair of the Board of Directors Chair of Citymeals on Wheels, that has delivered 70 million meals to homebound elderly New Yorkers.
Attendees will also be able to enjoy music from the Salvation Army Brass Band as they watch the snowflake’s iconic flip of the switch.
We are still waiting to hear if other holiday traditions, such as The Gift of Fifth or the decorative toys will be returning to the avenue this year.
Until then, be sure to check out our ultimate holiday guide for the best things to do this time of year in NYC.
