Waves of nostalgia seem to be taking over as Magnolia Bakery sent us back to 2007 earlier this year with their new breakfast loaves campaign using Youtube sensation Liam Kyle Sullivan, best known for his viral muffin video, and now news that everyone’s favorite toy store is making a grand comeback before the end of this year!
Toys “R” Us filed for bankruptcy and officially shut down back in 2018. However, a 20,000-square-foot flagship opened up in New Jersey’s American Dream Mall last year, marking the only stand alone store location to remain in the country.
Alas, people will no longer have to make a trip out to Jersey to peruse the toy aisles as Macy’s just announced their expanded partnership with WHP Global to bring Toys “R” Us into every Macy’s store across America.
The in-store shops will appear by October, just in time for all your holiday shopping needs! Some locations will span up to 10,000 sq. feet for flagship cities like New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Honolulu, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami and San Francisco.
Shoppers can expect colorful interiors with tons of interactive elements and of course, a life-size “Geoffrey on a Bench” photo op. All Macy’s locations will kick-off the return with a nine day celebration (October 15 – October 23) featuring in-store events, including giveaways and fun family activities.
And on October 14th, New Yorkers can see the in-store shop for themselves with the official unveil at Macy’s Herald Square. The 14,000 sq. ft shop’s grand opening events include:
- October 15 – Barbie™ Day
- October 16 – Fisher-Price® Day
- October 17 – Geoffrey’s Birthday
- October 18 – National Geographic™ STEM Day
- October 19 – Rainbow Loom® Day
- October 20 – Play-Doh® Day
- October 21 – Pokémon™ Day
- October 22 – LEGO® Day
- October 23 – L.O.L Surprise!™ Day
- October 23 – Geoffrey’s Birthday Brunch
Toy “R” Us products have previously been available for purchase exclusively online through Macy’s, but now the partnership will be taken to a whole new level with physical stores.
“Macy’s cannot wait to bring the Toys“R”Us experience to life in our stores,” said Nata Dvir, Macy’s chief merchandising officer. “We hope Toys”R”Us kids of all ages discover the joy of exploration and play within our shops and families create special memories together. The customer response to our partnership with Toys“R”Us has been incredible and our toy business has seen tremendous growth.”
