With a weekend of weather colder than Siberia and a cold snap triggering a freeze warning, this is certainly not the spring we braved through the winter for. And while Punxsutawney Phil did warn us of this, frankly we’ve had enough. But guess what, New Yorkers: the time has finally come to leave that black puffer coat in your closet as temperatures will finallyyyyy soar up into the 80s this weekend!
According to AccuWeather’s daily forecast, Saturday, April 19th will reach a warm 81º with a bit of a breeze and some variable cloudiness. The Weather Channel, however, is predicting a slightly warmer high of 82º. We’re already imagining how good the sun is going to feel on our skin, and with a UV index of 6, which is considered high, it’s officially sunscreen weather! Now we’re just hoping it lasts…
Don’t get too excited yet, though–and those with seasonal allergies, we’re talking to you. AccuWeather also says pollen levels will be very high, so depending on what you’re allergic to you may want to double up on that Claritin and Flonase.
As for Sunday, April 20th, things will cool down just a bit, but it’ll be nothing like the weather we’ve been having as of late. AccuWeather is calling for a high of 67º, so a bit cooler, but there will still be some sunshine mixed with clouds–along with smoke clouds since it will, after all, be 4/20.
The UV index will be even higher on Sunday, at 8, making the day actually feel closer to 69° than 67º–perfect weather for an Easter egg hunt!
We already know NYC’s parks are going to be flooded with New Yorkers itching to feel the sun on their skin, so if you’re looking for something a bit less crowded we suggest grabbing some fresh produce at a local farmers market–rhubarb pie, anyone?!–peruse some outdoor art, or enjoy a meal al fresco!
As for next week, things will mostly stay on the warmer side. Monday, April 21st will be the coldest day of the week, with a projected high of 58º, and the warmest day will be Tuesday, April 22nd, with a projected high of 75º. And get ready, because The Old Farmer’s Almanac did say a warmer than usual spring would be heading our way this year!
