The beef is back: Groundhog Day 2025 has arrived, and Punxsutawney Phil and Staten Island Chuck once again delivered opposite predictions.
Last year’s Groundhog Day celebration finally saw the dynamic duo agree on the arrival of an early spring. But this year, they’ve returned to their old ways and decided to deliver conflicting forecasts.
Punxsutawney Phil stuck with his initial prediction . He saw his shadow on Sunday February 2nd, and that suggests we’ll be getting six more weeks of winter. (Luckily our winter bucket list is on hand to keep you busy!)
Then we have our native New Yorker, Staten Island Chuck. He did not see his shadow, meaning an early spring is on its way. Considering NYC is experiencing its coldest winter in 13 years, some of us might be be pleased to learn that Chuck is looking ahead to sunny days.
So, the question is: Who do we believe? According to statistics, Phil isn’t necessarily the best weather predictor and only has a 39% accuracy rating. Chuck, on the other hand, is a bit more weather-savvy and has a whopping 80% accuracy rate. (Plus he’s a New Yorker and we always trust our own kind.)
Though we’ll have to wait to find out what’s next, we suggest perusing our February events calendar in the meantime for some great things to do, no matter the weather.
