With daylight saving happening on March 9th, get ready for later sunsets and longer days in the near future. And thanks to data from AccuWeather, NYC will apparently gain more than 80 minutes of daylight between March 1st to March 31.
According to the AccuWeather graphic, cities in the country’s northernmost regions will gain the most hours of daylight, such as Seattle, Washington, set to gain more than 100 hours of daylight this month. Inversely, southern cities like Miami and Houston will only gain around 40 to 50 minutes of daylight.
Daylight Saving was first implemented in the United States after World War I for a slew of factors, including energy conservation, economic benefits and so on. However, many people are looking to put an end to the moving of the clocks for mental and physical health reasons, among other reasons.

NYC will keep gaining minutes of daylight through the end of June. This means NYC will continue seeing later sunsets until a few days after the summer solstice on June 20th, 2025.
But if you simply can’t stand the darkness until the end of this month, maybe its time you impulsively book that trip you’ve been dreaming about this week from LGA–one of the country’s cheapest airports to depart from.
