LaGuardia Airport (LGA) is among the six cheapest departure airports in the country.

The national average domestic airfare will cost travelers about $360, according to data from Q3 of 2024. LGA’s lowest average departure price comes out to about $303, $57 below the national average.
Other affordable U.S. airports to fly from include: Chicago (MDW), Las Vegas (LAS), Orlando, Florida (MCO), San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU), and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida (FLL).
Most expensive airports to fly from in the U.S.
In contrast, if traveling on a budget is a priority, you may want to avoid flying out of the country’s most expensive airports.
Data shows that Washington D.C.’s IAD is the most expensive airport to depart from in the country, with an average fare costing about $473. That’s $170 more than an average flight out of LGA.
Other expensive airports to avoid departing from include: Santa Ana, California (SNA), San Francisco (SFO), Salt Lake City (SLC), Detroit (DTW), and Newark, NJ (EWR).
Factors that impact airport fares
Due note, there are many key factors that determine an airport’s affordability. For example, an airport with a higher volume of workers purchasing business class tickets could increase the average fare price. Not to mention, airlines’ competitive pricing adds to an airports advantage or disadvantage on average prices due to the supply and demand of certain routes.
