With Thanksgiving now behind us and December on its way, it’s only fitting that the weather starts to drop. And after a very dry autumn, some wintry conditions might not be so bad.
The Department of Homeless Services issued its first Code Blue of the season last night after temperatures dropped below freezing. And though the Code Blue was only under effect until 8am Monday morning, NYC can expect chilly temperatures to continue throughout the week. In fact, NYC will see colder temperatures than Alaska, according to The Weather Channel’s 10-day forecast.
Manhattan, New York is forecasted to be colder than Skagway, Alaska for much of the week. Friday, December 6, 2024 will see a dramatic 12°F difference between the two cities, with NYC forecasted to reach a high of 35°F and Skagway 47°F. It could get as cold as 26°F (below freezing) in NYC on Friday.
We can only expect temperatures to continue dropping as winter goes on. Remember last year when NYC was colder than Antarctica?
Moreover, nearly every low this week will be below freezing in NYC. Meanwhile, Skagway, Alaska is forecasted to drop below freezing today only.
According to The Weather Channel, no snow is in the forecast for NYC this week, but we’re crossing our fingers we’ll see some snowflakes as early as next week based on historical data.
And though there’s nothing that makes one want to stay inside their apartment more than the bitter cold, don’t forget about all of the magical things to do and see in NYC during the holidays. Make the most of the temperatures by moving your body and taking to an ice rink, or by cozying into some hot chocolate at one of NYC’s holiday markets.
