If you’re anything like us, we’re pretty much over the snow and cold temperatures once January 1st hits. Unfortunately, NYC disagrees. This week’s temperatures are chalking up to be even colder than some cities in Alaska!
The Department of Homeless Services issued a Code Blue yesterday after temperatures dropped below freezing. And though the Code Blue was only under effect until 8am this morning, NYC can expect chilly temperatures to continue throughout the week. In fact, NYC will see colder temperatures than Alaska, according to The Weather Channel’s 10-day forecast.
Manhattan, New York is forecasted to be colder than Juneau, Alaska for much of the week. Thursday, February 20th, 2025 will see a dramatic 11°F difference between the two cities, with NYC forecasted to reach a high of 29°F and Juneau 40°F. It could get as cold as 23°F (below freezing) in NYC on Thursday.
Hopefully, we can expect warmer temperatures as we head into March. Remember last year when NYC was colder than Antarctica?
Moreover, every low through Sunday this week will be below freezing in NYC. Meanwhile, Juneau, Alaska isn’t forecasted to drop below freezing for the remainder of the week.
According to The Weather Channel, no snow is in the forecast for NYC this week, but we may see some snow showers next Friday, according to early predictions.
And though there’s nothing that makes one want to stay inside their apartment more than the bitter cold, don’t forget about all of the magical things to do and see in NYC during the winter. Make the most of the temperatures by moving your body and taking to an ice rink, or by cozying into some hot chocolate.
