NYC is coming back, step by step, and the latest is the reopening of many of the city’s incredible museums!
The most recent is the Museum of Modern Art, which reopened its galleries on Thursday, August 27. Known for its free “First Fridays,” the museum teamed up with UNIQLO once again to offer completely free admission through Sunday, September 27!
Tickets must be reserved online, and will not be available at the Museum. They are released one week in advance in one-week blocks, every Friday at 10:00 a.m. EDT. General admission tickets for September 28–October 31 are also currently available.
If you’re a member, you can bypass this because an allocation of timed tickets is reserved for members each hour, plus Mondays are reserved exclusively for members and their guests.
When you enter, you’ll be greeted by a special installation of late designer Milton Glaser’s iconic “I ❤️ NY.” “Conceived during New York City’s financial crisis of 1975, Glaser’s design has become a symbol of hope and enduring love for the city and New York State for more than 40 years,” the museum explains.
New exhibits that were unveiled with the reopening also include exhibits from the father of modernism Félix Fénéon and Shuzo Azuchi Gulliver’s immersive moving-image installation, plus extended shows of Donald Judd’s revolutionary sculpture and Dorothea Lange’s powerful photographs.
Oh, and don’t forget to take a break in their relaxing sculpture garden!
Of course, even their new safety instructions are works of art:
The MoMA is located at 11 West 53rd St., and is open 10:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. seven days per week.
