NYC students have been enjoying some days off here and there, between Eid al-Fitr, spring recess, Diwali, and Lunar New Year. And while schools will be closed again this coming Monday, May 26th for Memorial Day, there’s one break all the kiddos have their eyes on: summer recess–and according to the NYC DOE School Calendar it’s quickly approaching!
Though it almost feels as if New Year’s Day was literally yesterday, June is right around the corner, and that means it’s almost time for the kiddos to open their notebooks and unzip their backpacks one last time before summer recess. And though we’re sure all the kids have the date of their last day of school memorized, here’s when it is if you’re not sure:
What is the last day of NYC public school?
According to the New York City public schools’ academic calendar, the last day of school for public school students before summer recess in NYC is Thursday, June 26th. At the time of writing this that’s exactly five weeks, and we’re sure they’ll fly by just like the rest of this year has so far!
And to hold students over until that day arrives, there are still some upcoming days off to look forward to: Thursday, June 5th for Eid al-Adha and Thursday, June 19th for Juneteenth.
To get prepared as a parent, be sure to check out all of the best things to do with kids in NYC and the best playgrounds around NYC that kids will absolutely love to make the most of those long, hot summer days.
And, if you’re looking to feel like a kid yourself for a day, you may want to add Bryant Park’s massive game of musical chairs to your calendar–yes, it’s for adults (and kids too)!
