Though it sure as hell doesn’t feel like it outside–if you didn’t hear, NYC is going to be colder than Siberia this weekend–we did finally make it to spring! So naturally there’s only one thing on all the kids’ minds: spring break. And according to the NYC DOE School Calendar for 2024-2025, it’s already next week!
According to the calendar, NYC public schools will be closed beginning Monday, April 14th through Friday, April 18th for spring recess. Tack on the weekends and that means NYC students will have nine total days off from school! Sounds to us like the perfect time to take advantage of all of the best things to do with kids in NYC.
While New York City public schools are closed during this timeframe for spring recess, it’s important to note that not all New York State schools are necessarily closed during the same dates. For example, NYC Catholic elementary school students will have their spring break a week later, beginning Friday, April 18th, or Good Friday. Be sure to confirm with your specific school district which dates spring break will take place.
Though students will likely be sad to hear that spring break marks the last long holiday recess in the current school year, they can still look forward to Memorial Day, when schools will be closed on Monday, May 26th.
And for those counting down the days until summer, that will surely be here we know it! But keep in mind, once students return to campus next school year they may be doing so sans their cellphones!
To make the most of your child’s week off, perhaps you can embark on a kid-friendly trip from NYC! Or if you’re staying put, NYC is offering a variety of events for kids during spring break, including festivals, museum exhibits, and park activities. Here are some highlights:
- NYC Parks Kids Week: A week-long schedule of events taking place in parks across the city, including Ranger Games on Tuesday, April 15th
- Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival: Sunday, April 20th
- Cradle of Aviation Museum: Astronomy and Space Day: Wednesday, April 16th / Movie Nights: Wicked (Saturday, April 12th) and Lilo & Stitch (Tuesday, April 15th)
