Along with the MTA rolling out vintage trains shuttling baseball fans to the Mets’ Home Opener (something they haven’t done since 2018!), the iconic Empire State Building will celebrate the start of the team’s season alongside us by glowing orange and blue! The New York Mets are scheduled to take on the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday, April 4th, at 3:10 pm at Citi Field.
Though often in its “signature white,” the ESB ditches those for bright and colorful displays for holidays, city events, fundraisers, and more–it’s one of the most beloved traditions in NYC.
The building glitters in green for St. Patrick’s Day, pulses with a pink heart for Valentine’s Day, radiates rainbow colors for Pride, sparkles in red, black, and green for Juneteenth, sports its red, white, and blue for the Fourth of July, and more.
Next up on the calendar: illuminating the night sky once again on Thursday, April 3rd, this time shining blue and orange for the Mets Home Opener. And no, the building is not showing its allegiance to either team; it recently shone in blue and white pinstripes to celebrate the Yankees Home Opener on Thursday, March 27th.
Lights are typically visible throughout the city from sunset (~7:23 pm on Thursday) until 2 am, so you’ll have plenty of time to catch a glimpse for yourself.
Beyond the Empire State Building glowing for the Mets, be sure to check out the Mets’ 2025 promotional giveaway schedule, which features an exciting lineup of items for fans attending home games at Citi Field, including 10 bobblehead collectibles and a range of unique apparel! And fans will also be happy to know that the Mets are serving up big flavors at Citi Field this baseball season! Here’s everything you need to know about the tasty new bites.
You can view the full calendar of lights for the beloved landmark on its website. And don’t forget you can also text the ESB to find out the significance behind its light displays–that’s some VIP treatment right there!
