New Yorkers were dreaming of a white Christmas, and Mother Nature delivered.
On Christmas Eve, we woke up to flurries and picturesque scenes. Though the snow quickly disappeared, an inch remained in Central Park on Wednesday, December 25th. According to the National Weather Service, 1 inch of snow constitutes as a white Christmas, so yes, we reached the milestone — for the first time since 2009.
Though we received some winter weather and Alaskan temperatures, don’t get used to the snow…or the cold. According to NYC’s 10-day forecast, we’re due for light rain this weekend, and temperatures are expected to hit nearly 57 degrees on Sunday, December 29th, which is quite a difference from what we’ve been experiencing. Any snowflakes we’ve seen in the forecast are replaced with rain clouds.
If you’re thinking about those New Year’s Eve dinners and New Year’s Eve parties, or if you’re braving the crowds to see the ball drop in Times Square, you’ll be pleased to know things are fairly mild for the next celebration. On December 31st, temperatures are expected to reach 50 degrees, and showers are due in the afternoon. On the first day of the new year, we can expect early-morning showers, as well as similar, mild temperatures.
Given that the weather can change in a New York minute, we’ll keep you posted on the next snow prediction for NYC. In the meantime, for more on what’s ahead during this holiday season, the Weather Channel’s 10-day forecast can assist with anything you need.
