There’s no denying that eating BBQ is a summer must, and Pure Grit BBQ is giving vegans something to munch on!
The beloved plant-based barbecue brand has been selling its BBQ sauces and rubs since 2020. Today it’s opening the doors to its first brick-and-mortar location in the heart of New York City as the city’s first ever fast-casual vegan BBQ restaurant.
The Pure Grit BBQ concept was born following a trip to Austin where owner Fitzmaurice experienced Texas’ famous barbecue scene but noticed there were no vegan options. Upon returning to NYC, Fitzmaurice partnered with colleague Jenny Mauric and Pure Grit BBQ was born.
The duo collaborated with vegan chef Nikki King Bennett on perfecting the sides, and nationally-renowned Pitmaster Daniel Jacobellis to ensure the authenticity of barbecue in every dish. They also joined forces with plant-based chef Emily Hersh in 2021 to perfect the menu.
Pure Grit BBQ celebrates the flavors of classic barbecue dishes with a unique twist. Their extensive menu options will give vegans the opportunity to enjoy a BBQ meal once again. In fact, even non-meat eaters will be lining up for a taste!
Foodies will love their variety of dishes (that are also gluten-free!), and menu highlights include:
- Cashew Queso
- Signature Cornbread Waffles
- Pulled Eggplant Sandwiches
- Fan favorite Mac and Cheese with shiitake bacon and almond parmesan
- Smoked Sweet Potato Bites
- Sides like baked beans and potato salad
And, to finish it all off, be sure to end your meal with their Kitchen Sink Cookie.
Pure Grit BBQ is a space where non-meat eaters and meat-eaters alike can come together and enjoy delicious, comforting BBQ. Their mission is to create a homey dining experience that brings everyone to the table—regardless of dietary restrictions.
Pure Grit BBQ is now officially open for all your vegan BBQ desires!
