1. Bemelmans Bar, Upper East Side
We’re not sure if it’s the sweet sound of the grand piano at this landmark NYC bar that makes us feel like we’ve taken a trip back in time, or the exquisite murals painted by Ludwig Bemelmans (famed for the Madeline series of children’s books). Either way, they have some very classy drinks and it’s not as pricey as you might expect.
If you like your cocktails with a breathtaking view of the city on the side, this is the place for you. The swanky bar and lounge near Herald Square is known for its luxurious outdoor terrace and yummy small plates as well as a menu full of specialty cocktails.
With a welcoming name and no-reservations policy, you can’t help but get comfortable at this New York hotspot. Run by two of the bartenders who worked at the bar when it was Milk & Honey (closed in 2012), the place has an eclectic crowd of drinkers and a creative cocktail list. You’ll fit right in.
Eliza’s Local just opened this year on the corner of Saint Marks Place. They offer a large selection of craft beers and local spirits. The staff is extraordinarily friendly too. Pro tip, try the Pineapple Mezcal Sour.
Crimson and Rye is a craft cocktail bar and lounge located in the lobby of Manhattan’s Lipstick building. The horseshoe style bar and the cozy leather lounge chairs set the mood for a night full of fancy cocktails. They focus on and serve over 40 small batch whiskeys but you can get any type of spirit.
The name of this Irish-American bar doesn’t immediately bring appetizing cocktails to mind but, we were proven wrong. The cocktails here are to die for and it’s well worth a visit to check out their grocery store which features Irish and British imports. They are the winner of several awards includingthe World’s Best Bar in 2016.
