Remember back in April when temperatures in NYC soared to 82º and we finally got that taste of sun after a weekend of weather colder than Siberia?! Honestly, how could we forget! And now, after what felt like endless rain and NYC not seeing clear, sunny skies for 10 days, we’re in for some summer-like temperatures this week as temperatures will soar to feel like 90-something degrees!
According to AccuWeather’s daily forecast, temperatures on Thursday, June 5th will reach a warm 89º, with an overall forecast that reads “very warm and humid with clouds and sunshine; possible danger of dehydration and heatstroke while doing strenuous activities.” The max UV index will reach a 10, which is considered very high, and RealFeel temperatures will clock in at a whopping 94°. The Weather Channel is confirming this prediction.
Heat + sun + humidity = a day spent sweating through our clothes on the subway platforms. So, like, you may want to dress light and comfortable on Thursday, and don’t forget that handheld fan!
As for the following day, Friday, June 6th, things will cool down just slightly, but it’ll still be warm. AccuWeather is calling for a high of 86º, so just a bit cooler, but RealFeel will again be slightly warmer at 90º. Compared to Thursday’s sun, however, Friday will see variable clouds with a chance of thunderstorms (and only a UV index of five, which is moderate) though we’re crossing our fingers this changes since it will be the first day of Governor’s Ball!
As for this weekend, it looks like it’s shaping up to be a rainy one. Saturday, June 7th will only reach 75º and Mother Nature will bring us “a thick cloud cover and not as warm but humid with a couple of showers and a thunderstorm,” according to AccuWeather. RealFeel will only feel slightly warmer, at 77º, with a UV index of 3, which is moderate.
For Sunday, June 8th, AccuWeather is calling for it to be slightly warmer, at 80º with a RealFeel of 86º, with intervals of clouds and sunshine with a brief shower or two. But don’t let those clouds fool you–the UV index will be a whopping 11, which is considered “extreme.”
We already know NYC’s parks and beaches are probably going to be flooded with New Yorkers playing hooky from work, so if you’re looking for something a bit less crowded we suggest grabbing some fresh produce at a local farmers market like Union’s Square, browse some outdoor art, or enjoy a meal al fresco!
