Is the weather outside about to get…frightful?
According to the current snow forecast, NYC could receive a few flurries at the start of the week. What a fitting way to welcome December and the holiday season, no?
Although we technically saw our first snow of the season on November 11th — for a solid 15-20 minutes early in the morning — we can’t possibly count such a brief phenomenon. Could this week be the start of NYC’s snowiest winter in five years?
Snow forecast: NYC due for flurries the first week of December
Although Monday, December 1st is expected to be fairly mild, Tuesday the 2nd gives us the possibility of snow — and definitely frigid temps.
According to the AccuWeather forecast, flurries are bound to creep in Tuesday, roughly from 10am to 1pm, so be mindful of a potentially messy morning commute. According to the National Weather Service, locales within the tristate area can expect 2-5 inches of snow.
As for NYC? Well…not exactly. It looks like we’re in for a Veterans Day snow repeat: the forecast says that there’s an 80% chance of little to no accumulation. (Sorry — might not be time to grab the sleigh out of storage for the kiddos.) The NWS further claims that NYC will likely see any wintry

Rain, however, is most definitely going to take place with a 97% chance of precipitation and wind gusts could reach up to 17 miles per hour. Temperatures will hover in the low 40s, but you can expect it to feel more like 34 degrees or so. Tune in to Notify NYC for an updates on potential flooding in our area.
All in all, this might not be the start of the record-breaking snow of the season, but rest assured, meteorologist Allan Nosoff says we’ll see anywhere between 25 and 35 inches of snow in 2025-2026, which will surpass what we’ve seen in recent years. (But for reference, the infamous blizzard of ’95/’96 generously provided a staggering 75 inches of snow, so we’re in fairly good shape!)
