The temperature is dropping, the end of the year is approaching, and 5pm sunsets will soon be a thing. So, what does that mean for the first snow of the season?
Although it seems as though we’ve only just received a taste of fall, we’d be lying if we said we weren’t curious what’s ahead for the winter. If only we had a crystal ball…
As you might’ve heard, the northeast is likely due for strong winter weather — “chill, snow, repeat” — so you might want to pick out your favorite sledding hill now in preparation for the winter weather.
When is the first snow of the season in NYC?
Technically, we could’ve already had snow if past records are anything to go by. According to The Weather Channel, the earliest the city has seen its first snow is October 15th!
This year, we might pushing it back quite a bit, as the Weather Channel predicts the soonest we could see a few flurries is December 7th of this year.

According to the AccuWeather Forecast, NYC could potentially expect anywhere from 17-21″ of snow this year, compared to last year’s 12.9″. Typically, the average has hovered around 29.8″, so while we’re likely getting more than what we’ve experienced last year, it won’t be as dramatic as it has been in years prior.
But who knows? Mother Nature can be fairly unpredictable.
Though we might have a few weeks to go before we can expect a winter wonderland, we still have a bit to look forward to this autumn. Experts revealed when fall foliage will peak in NYC, and fortunately, it’s right around the corner. Grab a PSL and meet us in Central Park to admire the views.
