Whether you’re interested in reenacting a scene from High School Musical in Troy’s backyard, or you rather cozy up in a quiet place with a good book, this secret treehouse in the middle of Manhattan might just be NYC’s best hidden gem to date.
Located within the depths of 6BC Garden in the East Village is a tiny treehouse that’s entirely open to the public during garden hours.
Upon entering the garden you’ll find the treehouse covered in twisting greenery past the beautiful walking trail. Once you climb up the stairs you’ll be privy to a calm sanctuary in the sky that overlooks the entire garden.
You can choose to enjoy the indoor portion complete with bench seating under rows of bookshelves, or opt for the outside balcony table to breathe in the fresh air that can otherwise be hard to find in the city.
The incredible garden was started by volunteers in the East Village back in the 1980s. Through the years it faced potential destruction from new developments. However, it has since been permanently dedicated for public use within New York City Parks system. It continues to be community-ran, working alongside numerous community garden coalitions and environmental groups.
Beyond boasting a secret treehouse, 6BC Garden is home to a plethora of events from community musical performances to private weddings. Keep up to date on all the upcoming happenings with their event calendar here.
