Locals and tourists alike can now rejoice in the beautiful new Plaza33, a pedestrian park atop the most accessible transit hub in New York City. The new green space offers a lush escape into nature, lined with circular stone benches, vibrant chairs and a central promenade.
This “beating heart of the new PENN DISTRICT” was constructed in part of Vornado Realty Trust’s $2.7 billion investment in bustling business center. It’s concentrated around newly renovated office buildings, amenities, and more than 70 exciting food and beverage options.
“[The] ribbon cutting of Plaza33 brings us another step closer to the full revitalization of the Penn District, creating a new pedestrian-friendly space to welcome neighbors and visitors alike to Penn Station,” said Congressman Nadler. “I’m grateful to Vornado for leading this effort, which should serve as a model as we work to expand safer, car-free spaces throughout NYC.”
Moreover, Plaza33 will host its own free entertainment programming open to the public in collaboration with the 34th Street Partnership. It will consist of educational opportunities, dance, and music.
“The area around Penn Station has needed open public space for years,” said Assemblymember Tony Simone. “The new plaza at 33rd Street is a wonderful resource, not only for the local community, but for the millions of people who travel through the Penn district every day.”
Designed by Mathews Nielsen Landscape Architects, the incredible new outdoor feature is a wonderful addition to the city from the public-private partnership between the NYC DOT and Vornado.
