It’s been a hectic season of weather this summer, from heat waves to endless cloudy skies.
Now, the season isn’t letting up—NYC is under a new flood watch for the second week in a row, following the end of last week’s weather trifecta.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the flood watch will begin at 2pm on Monday, July 14th and last through 12am on Tuesday, July 15th. More than two inches of rain could be dropped on New Yorkers per hour, in addition to thunderstorm activity. NWS believes totals could reach up to five inches, all in a span of three to four hours.
Heavy rain from this evening’s scattered showers and thunderstorms could cause excessive runoff, creating a risk of urban flooding.
Continue to check forecasts throughout the day to see if the flood watch escalates into a flood warning. To clarify, a flood watch is less severe, existing as a warning that flood conditions are favorable. Meanwhile, a flood warning means that flooding is imminent and action must be taken immediately.
