NYC is home to ~23,000 restaurants, so choosing where to eat out can be a pretty overwhelming decision. And if you’re someone always down to try something new, you could eat at a new restaurant for years in NYC before having to repeat a place.
In fact, a study using OpenTable data analyzed its 8,282 businesses listed across the five boroughs on their platform and found exactly how long it would take to eat your way through all of NYC’s restaurants. The answer: 22.7 years!
To clarify, the number was calculated based on the idea of dining at one restaurant per day. If someone were to eat out for three meals each day it would cut the time to 7.5 years.
The study even got detailed enough to split the years by boroughs: 12 years for Manhattan, 5.5 years for Brooklyn, 6 months for Staten Island, and 3.5 years for Queens.
Of course, thousands of restaurants close and open over the years and not every establishment is listed on OpenTable so the exact answer is always fluctuating.
