After 85 years in business, NYC’s Economy Candy is expanding for the first time in history. The sister shop, named ‘A Taste of Economy Candy,’ officially opened on February 7, 2023—just in time to grab all your necessary Valentine’s Day chocolates and treats!
The exciting new location has popped up inside of Chelsea Market. A Taste of Economy Candy adds to the other attractions within the Chelsea neighborhood, including the recently opened food hall, Olly Olly Market, featuring delicious bites from Forsyth Fire Escape to DdoBar by Joomak Banjum.
Sweet lovers can shop a variety of “vintage candies and classics” at the outpost, a representative informed Eater. The shop will rotate its inventory each month, so it’s definitely worth stopping by to see the new treats on the shelves every so often.
Company ownership has been passed down three-generations since its founding in 1937, making it the oldest retail candy shop in the city. The sugary staple is now helmed by Mitchell Cohen and his wife Skye Greenfield.
During opening week, the Chelsea Market sibling will host loads of sweet events, including:
- Scratch to Win!
- When: Feb. 7th – 14th
- What: Pick up a free scratch card to uncover exciting discounts and free treats. *Every card is a winner!
- Valentines Day, Tony’s Chocolonely
- When: Feb. 14th
- What: The first 200 customers will get a free, full-sized chocolate bar and themed treats
