New Yorkers are one step closer to getting their hands on legendary Beaver Nuggets.
In other words? A massive Buc-ee’s has officially been greenlit along the ultimate road trip route heading south out of the city.
If you’ve ever loaded up the car for a road trip down south, you already know the deal: Buc-ee’s is more of a tourist destination than a rest stop. Because New Jersey’s self-service gas ban makes building a 100+ pump mega-station there nearly impossible, and New York has yet to announce a local spot, tri-state fans have had to travel far to get their fix.
That is officially changing. After two years of fierce local debate, the Stafford County Board of Supervisors voted 5-2 to approve a brand-new location right off Interstate 95 S (Exit 140) at Courthouse Road and Austin Ridge Drive, according to reports.
Why This is a Game-Changer for New Yorkers
Right now, the closest open Buc-ee’s to NYC is off I-81 in Mount Crawford, Virginia. It’s a nearly 6-hour trek that requires a massive detour if you are heading straight down the coast. The newly approved Stafford County location changes the game:
- The Perfect Pit Stop: It sits directly on I-95, the primary artery New Yorkers use to drive to D.C., the Outer Banks, or Florida.
- Shaving Off Travel Time: Located just under 5 hours (269 miles) from Midtown Manhattan, it is the perfect distance to stop, stretch your legs, and grab lunch.
What the Mega-Center Will Feature
- The Scale: A flagship 74,000-square-foot store (even larger than the upcoming Chicago-area location!).
- The Fuel: 120 gas pumps and 24 electric vehicle charging stations.
- The Food: Fresh chopped brisket sandwiches, a massive wall of world-famous jerky, fresh fudge, and hot glazed pecans.
- The Restrooms: Immaculate, spacious stalls famously kept clean enough to “eat off the floor.”
All of this being said, New Yorker’s won’t want to start their engines just yet. Because the site sits right off highly congested I-95, a federal traffic study is required before construction can even begin. That study will take about 1.5 years, and officials estimate it will be three to four years before the doors officially open. An official public opening timeline is expected to be released as site plans are finalized.
But for a guaranteed, spotlessly clean bathroom break and a bag of famous nuggets? We are more than willing to wait.
