Bronx-born rapper, Cardi B, has been seen all over NYC lately promoting her new album, from bodega appearances, mall visits, and even personally selling physical copies to commuters on the subway.
And if you haven’t encountered her yet, that’s about to change—Cardi B is now temporarily the voice of the New York City subway. Hear her energetic safety announcements the next time you ride, reminding passengers to “make sure you pay that fare and keep it real,” “ride safe, keep it cute, and keep it moving!” and that “steps are for stepping, not sitting.”
The MTA has yet to confirm how long Cardi B’s announcements will be heard over the speakers, only stating “that [they] will play in subway stations across [the] system” in posts to its socials.
Am I the Drama? marks Cardi B’s second studio album. It was officially released on September 19th, 2025 and received 49,494,477 global streams on Spotify just after four days. There’s 23 tracks on the record with major features from Janet Jackson, Selena Gomez and Summer Walker.
This is not the first time a celebrity voice has made a PSA for the MTA; Jerry Seinfeld, Awkwafina, and most recently Keenan Thompson, have all informed New Yorkers to stay safe across the MTA speakers.
Unfortunately, the MTA has discontinued branded MetroCards last December, so there’s no special Cardi B MetroCard like there was for Olivia Rodrigo or Dolly Parton.
