As MetroCards inch closer to being fully phased out and replaced by OMNY, we’re also approaching the end of an era for the transit system’s collectible MetroCards. Earlier this year the MTA announced the final batches of these limited-edition, collectible MetroCards were on their way, and the last designs have officially been released.
For their final batch, the NYC MTA has teamed up with Instagram to “celebrate the creativity found on Instagram and in the subways alike, through the eyes of New York based creators,” according to a press release. Three iconic NYC-based creators, @subwaytakes, @newyorknico and @overheardnewyork, have each designed their version of the MetroCard.
The limited-edition cards “celebrate the creativity found on Instagram and in the subways alike, through the eyes of New York based creators” and are part of Instagram’s ongoing effort to celebrate creativity and self-expression.
