Holiday season is only a few weeks away and it’s time for full decoration mode! While there’s many places around NYC to pick out a Christmas tree for this year, there’s nothing quite like cutting down you’re own! The smell of the fresh pine, the meandering through the fields to find the perfect one…it’s a Christmas tradition!
If you’re looking for a little day trip this winter to escape the city and fine the perfect evergreen, here’s some Christmas tree farms around the area to do it!
1. Wyckoff Christmas Tree Farm
Looking for a Christmas tree with a little flair? This farm in Belvidere, New Jersey sells trees in a rainbow of colors using a technique of latex-based colorants that are specifically created for painting Christmas trees! Aside from their colorful ones, you can also cut your own Fraser Fir, Canaan Fir, Douglas Fir, and Blue Spruce too.
The farm is open now on weekends from 8 am – 4:30 pm and 10 am – 4:30 pm on Monday-Friday! Learn more about the farm here.

2. Wilkens Fruit & Fir Farm
Wilkens Fruit and Fir Farm is one of our favorite spots for apple picking in the fall, and in the winter they have a great selection of Christmas trees too! Known most for their Fraser Fir trees, you can choose-n-cut your winner, or opt for one of their pre-cut options.
The farm is open now with no reservations required on Wednesday-Friday from 10 am – 4 pm for tree picking. Learn more about the farm and reserve a slot here.

3. Fairview Tree Farm
This 60 acre property has been operating since 1989, and is a perfect spot in Connecticut (just outside NYC) to grab a fresh tree. You can of course chop down your own evergreen through December 22nd, and even stay awhile for their Christmas activities too.

4. Emmerich Tree Farm
Reservations are officially open for this farm located in Warwick, NY…just an hour outside of the city! Here you can choose-and-cut from 12 varieties of spruce, pine, and fir and reservations are required. Options range from staples like Blue Spruce and Canaan Fir to even more rare types like Korean Fir and White Pines.

5. Lewin Farms
During the summer, this massive Long Island farm is perfect for picking fruits like strawberries, blackberries, and even watermelons…but during the holidays it’s all about the trees!
You can saw down your own Douglas Fir, Blue Spruce, or Norway Spruce, all for a price of $65 no matter the size. The 2024 season is happening now everyday (except Tuesday) hours from 9 am – 4 pm. Learn more about the farm here.

6. Barclay’s Tree Farm
Barclay’s Tree Farm is a family owned and operated outpost in NJ that offers 5 varieties of trees: Fraser Fir, Douglas Fir, Blue Spruce, Norway Spruce, and White Fir.
Alongside their selection of choose-your-own-tree, there will be holiday events like photos with Santa, food and drink trucks, and a fundraiser for a local animal shelter! Learn more about the farm here.

7. Maple Row Farm
Offering one of the largest selections of cut your own Christmas Trees in New England, Maple Row Farm has been around for eight generations since 1769. The 200+ acre farm offers 9 tree varieties hovering around the $128 price mark. Plus, there’s festive hayrides, hot cocoa and snacks, tailgating, and so much more going on! 8. Battenfeld Christmas Tree Farm
Sadly, Battenfeld’s Christmas Tree Farm is now closed for picking trees as of December 6th, but they’re hosting holiday activities all month long like wagon rides, bagpipe performances, visits from Santa, and more. The Farm is open 8 am – 4 pm. Learn more about the farm here.

9. Tilden Lane Farm
For over 225 years, Tilden Lane Farm has held true to the family roots of a Christmas tree farm. Their selection of trees range from $90 and up (cash and check) and it’s recommended to visit them on December 14th & 15th if you want to cut-your-own tree (due to limited availability). 10. Evergreen Christmas Tree Farm
Deemed “the mosts beautiful Christmas trees from the Hudson Valley,” you should definitely stop by Evergreen Farm if you’re looking for a beauty. The 15 acre farm features Douglas Fir, Frazier Fir, Spruce, and Concolor Fir trees that range in height from 5-10 feet tall.
You can cut your own or just pick it out and have it chopped! Trees range from $45-95 and the it’s open Wednesday-Sunday, 9 am – 4 pm. Learn more about the farm here.
