From the most Instagrammable tourist attraction to the most Instagrammed landmark, NYC is undoubtedly picturesque–and its museums aren’t any different!
Photo wall tiles company Storyboards looked at the number of public Instagram posts that feature the hashtags for more than 50 popular museums across the country in order to rank each museum from most to least Instagrammable, and not only did one of NYC’s museums take the crown, but even more made the list!
Racking up an unbelievable 2,917,787 hashtagged Instagram posts (2,575,679 #moma hashtags and 342,108 #museumofmodernart hashtags) is NYC’s Museum of Modern Art.
The MoMA is home to a stunning range of modern and contemporary art, including Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night’ and Salvador Dali’s ‘The Persistence of Memory.’ In SoHo you’ll also find the MoMA Design Store where, from Dec. 13th to 22nd, you can snag a discount on your store purchase by using or mentioning the code SecretNYC*! More on that here.
Tickets for the MoMA range from $15 to $30, while admission for children under 16 is free. However, they do offer free admission days on the first Friday of every month!
The Guggenheim is the third most Instagrammable museum in America, with a total of 967,717 Instagram posts.
Built in 1959, the Guggenheim is home to modern and contemporary art exhibitions, performances, lectures, and film screenings.
Though the museum’s full name is the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, it’s more commonly referred to as just the Guggenheim, which was hashtagged on 959,631 posts.
Unfortunately, due to a decline in museum membership, the museum’s admission price was recently raised $5, with adult admission now costing $30 rather than the previous $25. Not phased by the price increase, you can get your Guggenheim tickets here.
Lastly, NYC’s Metropolitan Museum of Art came in as the sixth most Instagrammable museum in the country, with a total of 449,310 Instagram posts.
The Met is home to art spanning over 5,000 years, including Claude Monet’s ‘The Water Lily Pond’, Caravaggio’s ‘The Musicians,’ and Vermeer’s ‘Study of a Young Woman.’
Every Friday and Saturday night the museum hosts Date Night at The Met, complete with three magical hours of live music, drinks, and gallery chats.
To clarify, these three museums are included when just looking at the top ten most Instagrammable ones! The American Museum of Natural History (#12), Whitney Museum of American Art (#25), 9/11 Memorial & Museum (#27), and Mmuseumm (#45) all made the list as well when looking at the full ranking of 46 museums.
