In New York werden über 800 Sprachen gesprochen, und eine davon ist nicht an eine bestimmte Region oder Kultur gebunden, außer, nun ja, an New York.
Die New Yorker haben definitiv ihre eigene Art zu sprechen, mit Ausdrücken und Wörtern, die von Besuchern oder in anderen Städten höchstwahrscheinlich nicht verstanden werden.
Wir haben unsere Follower gebeten, uns die Slang-Ausdrücke aus New York zu nennen, die sonst niemand versteht… und hier sind die Antworten!
Erstens gab es eine Menge darüber, wie die New Yorker die Zeit weitergeben & Distanz….
1. „Verspätung, U-Bahn-Probleme“ = Du bist 45 Minuten zu spät losgefahren, aber es gab auch tatsächliche Probleme mit der U-Bahn.
2. Es ist ein kurzer Spaziergang (lies: es ist kein kurzer Spaziergang).
3. Ich werde in 5 (45 Minuten bis 3 Stunden zu spät) dort sein.
4. Es ist um den Block oder die Straße hinauf… das bedeutet, dass es weit weg ist.
5. Der Unterschied zwischen „you mad far“ und „you mad deep“.
6. Es ist nicht weit weg, es ist „genau da“ (nur 35 Blocks entfernt).
Und wie wir bestellen:
7. „Gib mir nur einen Klecks.“
8. Habe einmal in einer Pizzeria angerufen und nach „einem Kuchen“ gefragt. Die Person, mit der ich zusammen war, war entsetzt. Sie sagte: „Aber du hast doch nicht Pizza-Kuchen gesagt, was, wenn sie denken, du meinst Apfel?“
9. „Ein normaler Kaffee.“ (AKA Milch, 2 Zucker)
10. Zum Laden an der Ecke gehen, um einen „Hero“ zu kaufen.
11. „Käse hacken“.
12. „Ich muss Lebensmittel einkaufen gehen“ (alle anderen im Land sagen Lebensmittel einkaufen).
13. „Ich hole mir ein Eckquadrat extra Käse.“
Im Gespräch:
14. „How you do’n“ = Es ist mir scheißegal, wie es dir geht
15. „Yo, das ist mein Sohn.“
16. „Fuckisyoutalkinbout“ ist ein Wort.
Zum Thema Verkehr:
17. „Es ist Showtime, meine Damen und Herren“
18. „Gonna bust a U-eee (youie) real quick.“ [U-turn]
19. „Can I get a swipe?“
Allgemeiner Wortschatz:
20. „Ich fahre in die Stadt“ … das bedeutet Manhattan, auch wenn man in Brooklyn wohnt.
21. Wenn du außerhalb der 5 Stadtbezirke gehst: Du wohnst im Norden!
22. Weißt du, die Miete ist verdammt hoch.
23. „Es ist verrückt draußen.“
24. „B und T“ = Brücke und Tunnel.
25. Anstatt in der Schlange zu stehen, stehen die New Yorker „on line“.
26. „Blocks“ nicht Straßen, „stoop“ nicht Stufen.
27. „Nicht umsonst“.
28. „Ich bin ein Vollidiot.“
29. „AIGHT, SO BOOM.“
30. „It’s a wrap.“
31-42. Bruh (hör auf zu spielen) bruhhh (meinst du das ernst?) bro (pass auf) gimme my 3 feet (geh weg von mir) dumb (übertreibe „dumb brick out“) whip (schönes Auto) guap (Geld) trippin (extra sein) beef (Meinungsverschiedenheit) you good (bist du ok?) Don’t worry about it? (Stop.) Du bist cool. (Haben wir ein Problem?)
43. „Only in NY…“ bedeutet, dass du gerade ein verrücktes Ding die Straße runterrollen gesehen hast.
