Happy Memorial Day Weekend? The unofficial start of summer will likely experience atypical seasonal weather: nor’easter conditions. (Yes, really.)
The Northeast is due for a gray, gloomy, and windy few days, according to The Weather Channel. A statement reads, “A late season nor’easter likely brings a cold windswept heavy rain to the region late Wednesday into early Friday.” Considering NYC just experienced several straight days of rain, this is not the news everyone was hoping to hear.
MDW weekend weather: nor’easter conditions
As far as what’s coming mid-week? Expect rain and temperatures into the low 60s beginning on Wednesday, the 21st, potentially not even reaching 60 degrees. Unfortunately, this sets us up for a rather soggy MDW. (Adjust your BBQ plans accordingly, folks.)
While the beaches in NYC open this weekend, you might want to wait a week or two before making the trek. Although the bulk of the bad weather will take place Wednesday through Friday, the weekend will have grey skies and temperatures in the mid-60s. (Not really prime conditions for catching waves.)
Our day off on Monday will likely see a 65% chance of rain and temperatures might not even reach 60 degrees. (Bummer!) Hopefully you have some cozy sweats at the ready.
Do keep in mind: According to The Weather Channel, “The only requirement for a coastal storm to become a nor’easter is winds coming from a northeast direction off the Atlantic. Nor’easters can range from intense, with snow like we sometimes see in winter, to nuisance ones like this, which only bring rain and gusty winds.”
So, will it be the sunny start of summer we were hoping for? Unfortunately, not. Certain locales throughout the northeast can see up to 2 inches of rain and the New England coastline might experience gusts of wind up to 40mph.
Sorry folks, we know this isn’t the forecast you were envisioning. Let’s just cross our fingers that the summer weather predictions don’t leave us with a dreary season. That’s the last thing we need!
