April showers bring May flowers? We’d like to have a word with whoever coined this phrase.
According to an upcoming weather forecast, NYC is in for seven straight days of rain, with percentages of precipitation ranging from 35-95% each day. If you have yet to fetch your umbrella from the closet, consider this your sign to weather-proof your upcoming commutes. (You might want to postpone those rooftop rendezvous, while you’re at it.)
Ready for rain, NYC? What to expect this week
While temperatures might hover comfortably in the 60s and 70s from Tuesday, May 13th onward, you’ll probably want to leave your Wayfarers at home. The forecast is grey, gloomy, and not exactly what you’d expect from mid-May in NYC.
Conditions will be damp and wet, but there is a glimmer of good news. According to the NBC New York forecast, we might be in for consecutive rain from the 13th to the 20th — yes, lingering into the weekend — but the rain won’t last for long, extended periods of time. Wednesday, May 14th is expected to be the wettest of days with a 95% chance of precipitation and a high of 65 degrees Fahrenheit.
We hate to break the news, but it just so happens that we might see a scattered storm or two over the weekend. If we see any heavy rain, it’ll likely be late Friday into Saturday, so be sure to head somewhere indoors or catch a movie if you’re still in the midst of making plans.
For a more promising outlook, the Weather Channel’s 10-day forecast indicates more clouds than rain and less chance of precipitation. Overall, however, conditions will be manageable and NYC can expect about an inch of rain.
Allergies, well: those are another story! We’re expected to have a more intense allergy season this year, according to a new Accuweather Report. (You’ll want to take cover in June when grass pollen kicks into high gear in the northeast.)
But you might be pleased to know that a bit of rain is one way to wipe out those pesky allergies, so perhaps the next week in NYC won’t be so bad after all.
