With only 31 days into the new year, 2023 has proven to be record breaking! Not only has NYC just surpassed the latest measurable snowfall ever recorded, but January 2023 will officially go down as the warmest January in NYC to date.
According to Storm Team 4 NY, every day of January 2023 reported above average temperatures. This is a first for the city, even with records dating back nearly 200 years!
At this time last year, NYC had just received a powerful snowstorm that blanketed the streets. Much different than the current view outside your apartment…
The month started off abnormally warm, tying with a record high for Central Park of 66°F on Wendesday, January 4, 2023. A temperature that high had not been recorded in NYC for that date since 1950!
And though we’ve seen a fare share of minor flurries, none of them have led to any real measurable snowfall. As of now, we’re on track to break the record for the longest snow-free stretch in city history. There is only four more days until we tie with the current record (332 days) for the longest consecutive days with no snowfall. That makes today day 327!
However, forecasts predict a slight chance of snow to fall tonight threatening to break the ongoing snowless stretch with a possible accumulation up to 0.1″.
Guess we’ll have to wait and see what Mother Nature has in store!
