The TWA Hotel, which if you remember is home to this ginormous Twister room, is officially back open with its Pool Bar, rooftop pool, and observation deck!
The TWA Hotel is located at JFK Airport, in Eero Saarinen’s landmark 1962 TWA Flight Center, which was a high-glamour and “futuristic” (for the time) airline gate until it closed in the 2000s. Now it boasts ultra-quiet guest rooms, restaurants, and lots of vintage airline components.
Oh, and a massive rooftop infinity pool that offers panoramic views of one of the biggest runways at JFK, so you can watch as planes and jets take off into the clouds as you sip on a drink by the water! And the pool is purified every 30 minutes (a standard pool recirculates every 6 hours).
It’s also heated up to 100 degrees for the colder months, so it’s more like a pool/jacuzzi (or “pool-cuzzi” as they call it).
Speaking of drinks, the Pool Bar is now serving a new menu with aviation-inspired cocktails and bites like the “Come Fly With Me” with vodka, St-Germain, prosecco and fresh lime juice, served with TWA Flight Wings, and “The Runway” martini. (As per government regulations, you must buy food with your order, and they are only serving takeout as they prepare for a new outdoor dining experience).
Right now, due to government regulations and occupancy limits, only registered TWA Hotel guests can use the pool, visit the observation deck or eat at the Pool Bar. Still, isn’t a staycation in order after months in your apartment?
Or, they also have a “Daytripper” option, where you can pay for a four to eight hour “day stay” to enjoy the amenities of the hotel without booking an overnight room!
The Pool Bar and the Observation Deck are open from 7 a.m.-10 p.m. every day. The Pool Bar is currently offering takeout from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.; reservations are not available.More details can be found here.
