If you’ve ever stared at your rent bill in horror, watched a roach scurry across your kitchen floor, stepped over a trash pile the size of a small mountain, and thought, “there has to be a better life out there,” you’re not alone–NYC was literally just crowned the most stressful city in the world. And honestly…fair.
But what if you could trade all that chaos for Tuscan hills, medieval charm, and a town that pays half your rent just for showing up? No, this isn’t a fever dream brought on by too many $18 oat milk lattes. It’s a real offer from Radicondoli, a teeny village near Florence that wants new residents so badly it’s dangling euros right in front of our faces.
Imagine swapping rats for rolling vineyards, garbage bags for olive groves, sirens for church bells, and your “cozy” 400-square-foot shoebox for an actual home with vaulted brick ceilings–and all you have to do is move there and soak up la dolce vita?!
If you ask us, it’s a no brainer. After all, Tuscan escape > NYC stress spiral. Let’s get into it.

We know it all sounds too good to be true, but it’s really not–Italy’s small, cozy towns actually have a long history of selling homes for unbelievable prices to attract new kids on the block, like the medieval village of Castiglione di Sicilia where you can purchase a home for just one euro.
But Radicondoli is straying from this strategy and instead offering you cash to make your move to Italia!
Radicondoli first began taking steps to entice people to move there back in 2023, after its population dropped from 3,000 residents to just 966. Those who purchased homes in the village were handed 20,000 euros (roughly $23,000), along with an additional 6,000 euros for necessary home-related expenses.

The strategy proved to be successful, with Mayor Francesco Guarguaglini telling CNN the village has funded 23 property sales and attracted 60 new residents since 2023.
But with homes still sitting vacant, the town is looking for more residents to make the move–and it’s offering to cover half of the first two years of rent for new tenants who apply by the end of December 2025 and move there by early 2026.
Typically, in the case of the one euro homes–like over in Castiglione di Sicilia–the houses are pretty dilapidated. But that’s far from the truth in Radicondoli.

Here, available homes include everything from this 72,000 euro ($84,168) four room flat with plenty of historic charm–like ceiling beams and a brick fireplace–to this 10,000,000 euro ($11,690,915) sprawling farmhouse with a swimming pool and panoramic views. Guarguaglini stated:
We distinguish ourselves from the sale of houses at one euro. Here, our homes have a value. Sociality, hospitality, and numerous cultural initiatives are the added value alongside the strategic location of the village.

As with similar initiatives, this one does, of course, have some requirements, like committing to stay in the town for at least 10 years (four for renters).
Still, for a lifetime in an adorable Italian village and the chance to trade the hustle and bustle of a big city for a small, quaint town, it doesn’t sound like much of a compromise to us–especially when you consider things like the country’s incredible food, aperitivo culture, stunning art and history, and passionate Italian lifestyle.

And, if you’re looking for similar initiatives, this breathtaking Swiss village will pay you $25,000 to move there, while these Irish islands with adorable roaming sheep will pay you $90K to move there.
