“Honey, I think that painting is moving…” This is a phrase commonly uttered by frightened guests of haunted castles or magicians at Hogwarts. But now, art aficionados are getting in on the moving painting biz. As a part of a new Orbitz campaign, animation has been added to bring light, movement and steam to the coffee cups on Edward Hopper’s paintings. We are not usually fans of corporations putting a “Rad E-Spin for the Kidz” on classic artworks, but these subtle animations add an original, non-intrusive touch to Hopper’s work. If the purist inside of you is screaming, you can see Hopper’s best works like “Chop Suey” and “House by the Railroad” at the MoMA and at the Whitney Museum of American Art.
