Although The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list has come under fire this year after new rules were instated, it’s still an honor for any restaurant to find themselves in the mix—and that’s especially so for the Mexican restaurant Cosme in New York City.
The World’s 50 Best published their list today and at No.23 was Enrique Olvera’s Cosme. In 2018 Cosme was No.25 and the second best restaurant in the country, after Eleven Madison Park (which was No.4). 2019 has shaped up to be a pretty big year for Cosme being that their chef Daniela Soto-Innes has also won this year’s title of “World’s Best Female Chef”!
Enrique Olvera actually had two restaurants on the list, with Mexico City’s Pujol at No.12. Other U.S. restaurants that made the list included: Dan Barber’s Blue Hill at Stone Barns (No.28) in Pocantico Hills in New York; Dominique Crenn’s Atelier Crenn (No.35) in San Francisco; Eric Ripert’s Le Bernardin (No.36) in NYC; Grant Achatz and Simon Davies’ Alinea (No.37) in Chicago; and Corey Lee’s Benu (No.47) in San Francisco. No.1 on the list was Mirazur, located in Menton, France.
Under The World’s 50 Best’s new rules, all No.1 restaurants will not qualify for the lit again. Instead, they will all be put into a new “Hall of Fame”-style list called “The Best of the Best.”
