If you can’t make it out to Italy this summer, at least you can go to Brooklyn…
That’s right, though Brooklyn may lack monuments such as the Colosseum or the Trevi Fountain, it at least has incredible pizza and its very own version of the Leaning Tower of Pisa you could say.
If you pass by an unassuming brownstone at 633 Union Street and take a look closer, everything’s just a bit crooked. It’s actually been dubbed “The Leaning Brownstone” or what some may call ‘Brooklyn’s Leaning Tower of Pisa.’
Technically it’s not even a brownstone, but rather a four-story brick building that dates back to 1931, according to Atlas Obscura. Despite its slant that’s a cause for sloped floors and leaning armoires, tenants still reside in the apartment building.
According to an old post from The New York Times in 2008, a resident at the time had to install his shower curtain crooked for it to fit and couldn’t have any chairs with wheels. He was paying $2,300/month fora three-bedroom.
Overall, the NYC Department of Buildings reassured the apartment structure poses no real danger.
