Taiwan recently joined the list of countries offering a Digital Nomad Visa after announcing its launch on December 20th, 2024. Digital Nomad Visa holders will be permitted to work remotely from Taiwan for a maximum period of six months.
Why are countries offering Digital Nomad Visas?
Countries offer Digital Nomad Visas for a variety of reasons ranging from economic growth to boosting global mobility. National Development Council Minister Liu Chin-ching (劉鏡清) noted in an NDC council that Taiwan already ranks first in Asia for digital nomads through its Employment Gold Card. Offering a Digital Nomad Visa in Taiwan will only further foster this digital talent in the country. Moreover, Taiwan intends to allocate NT$150 billion each year towards innovative entrepreneurship.
Taiwan’s Digital Nomad Visa will be issued on a trial basis until the pilot’s effectiveness is observed.
Who is eligible for a Digital Nomad Visa in Taiwan?
- Foreign nationals who can work remotely
- 30+ years old with an annual income of at least $60,000 or 20-29 years old with an annual income of at least $24,000
When can you apply for a Digital Nomad Visa in Taiwan?
According to the National Development Council, Taiwan’s Digital Nomad Visa will go into effect in January 2025.
How long is Taiwan’s Digital Nomad Visa valid for?
Taiwan’s Digital Nomad Visa will first be issued for three months. However, it can be extended an additional three months, permitting foreign nationals to live and work in Taiwan for a total of 6 months.
