Sure, we know John F. Kennedy Airport, LaGuardia Airport, Newark Airport and even Stewart Airport, but have you ever heard of Sullivan County International Airport?
Servicing the Catskill Region, the terminal at Sullivan County International Airport first opened in 1969. So though the airport has technically been around for over 50 years, its $18.5 million transformation will make it unrecognizable, doing away with its outdated building for a modern, 15,000-square-foot terminal facility that’s energy efficient.

The million dollar makeover includes cost-effective timber beams, floor-to-ceiling windows, panoramic Catskill Mountain views, a pilot’s lounge, an all-electric HVAC system, and a new restaurant and bar area with a deck that overlooks the airport runway.
A total of 260 new jobs were created from the project. Construction is expected to reach full completion sometime this spring.
The transformation is all part of Governor Hochul’s Upstate Airport Economic Development and Revitalization Competition Funding, which awarded $230 million to nine Upstate airports, announced in September 2022.

Governor Hochul said:
Our airports serve as vital gateways to our communities that invite visitors and drive local economies by facilitating tourism and generating opportunities for business development…The ongoing transformation happening at Sullivan County International Airport and the eight other airports that received funding from our revitalization initiative sends a signal that our upstate cities and towns are open for business and available for community members and visitors to explore, enjoy and return to again and again.
New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez said, “the brand-new Sullivan County International Airport stands as a remarkable testament to Governor Hochul’s vision to elevate our Upstate airports to meet the expectations of 21st century travel. This stunning facility, complete with modern amenities including sustainable and cost-effective building features, is poised to emerge as a vibrant new gateway to the Catskill Region, broadening tourism and business opportunities in this historic and breathtaking region of New York State.”

Though Sullivan County International Airport is a public airport, it can accommodate private jet charters and business aviation services. It primarily functions for air taxi operations, general aviation and transient aviation.
