As of yesterday through this morning, NYC was under all sorts of weather warnings, advisories and watches. Gusts of wind as strong as 60mph and three inches of rain were estimated to fall upon the city. And though rain totals have yet to released, the overnight downpour and debris of fallen trees spoke for themselves.
Apparently, the NYC Parks Department received 95 reports of fallen trees due to last night’s storm. According to ABC 7, damage can be seen specifically at sites like West 227th Street and Marble Hill Avenue, Grant Avenue and 164th Street, Manhattan’s Upper West Side and more with downed trees crushing parked cars and obstructing power to nearby residents. In fact, thousands of NYC residents were without power, as shown on Con Edison’s Outage Map.
In terms of air travel, the entire nation was impacted with flight cancellations on Wednesday night.
Overall, conditions should be more mellow today with temperatures remaining in the 40s and a possible chance of showers throughout the day. However, we can look ahead to better weather next week with temperatures nearing the 70s on Monday and Tuesday.
