Governor Kathy Hochul and meteorologists are warning are urging New Yorkers to prepare for a long duration multi-hazard storm set to bring heavy rain and high wind gusts to NYC, causing hazardous travel, power outages, and flooding.
Some introduction to spring we’re having, huh?
2-3 inches of rain is expected to fall in NYC now through Thursday, April 4th, which will likely result in flooding and hazardous travel during Wednesday and Thursday commutes. Gusts of wind up to 60 mph are also possible today and Thursday which could cause additional, isolated power outages.
Meteorologist Dave Radell with the National Weather Service stated:
These winds have the potential to blow down some tree limbs and maybe even some trees and some power lines for those highest gusts, in addition to making some travel difficult if you’re in a large vehicle.
And according to CBS, this already came true. Today’s winds caused a tree to collapse onto two cars on the Upper West Side earlier today.
The following weather alerts are currently in effect:
- Coastal Flood Advisory – April 3, 2pm until April 4, 7am
- Flood Watch – April 3, 4pm until April 4, 1am
- High Wind Warning – April 3, 11am until April 4, 6am
- Travel Advisory – April 3 until April 4
And with temperatures not expected to climb past the 40s, some areas of New York could even see snowfall.
Hochul stated:
We are closely monitoring a storm system that is expected to bring heavy snow, rain and gale force winds to parts of our state. It is critical that New Yorkers monitor their local forecasts and take proper precautions as the weather unfolds.
