Inspired by real missions, the large-scale production combines authentic footage filmed aboard the International Space Station with free-roaming virtual reality, taking visitors on a journey 250 miles above Earth and creating an experience that’s already captivated more than 500,000 visitors worldwide.
Walk alongside real astronauts 250 miles above Earth
Rather than watching space exploration from behind a screen, you’ll be placed inside it. After a short introduction and headset fitting, visitors enter a free-roaming immersive environment where the walls of Midtown disappear, replaced by an astonishingly detailed recreation of the International Space Station.
The approximately 40-minute experience lets you move naturally through the station, explore different modules, and witness life in orbit from perspectives only a few hundred astronauts have ever experienced.
The production is built using cinematic 3D, 360-degree footage actually captured in space over the course of three years using specially engineered cameras installed aboard the ISS. That means you’ll be sharing moments with the astronauts themselves as they conduct experiments, float through the station, or venture outside during breathtaking spacewalks. The project is considered the largest cinematic production ever filmed in space.
One of the most unforgettable moments recreates what’s known as the “overview effect,” the profound emotional shift astronauts describe when seeing Earth from orbit. Suspended above the planet, you’ll watch continents drift beneath your feet while gaining a new appreciation for just how small our world really is.
The production earned a Primetime Emmy Award and has collected numerous international innovation awards since its debut.
