Live from New York, it’s nearly SNL lottery time!
A seat inside Studio 8H is one of the most coveted experiences in New York City. Scoring a spot to see Saturday Night Live live from Rockefeller Center is notoriously tough, but it isn’t impossible.
Following a star–studded Season 51—which brought us unforgettable nights with hosts like Ryan Gosling, Ariana Grande, and Will Ferrell—the late-night comedy institution is gearing up for Season 52.
To get your hands on these completely free tickets, you have two main routes: the annual August email lottery or the weekly digital-to-in-person standby line. Here is exactly how to do it.
When does the SNL ticket lottery open?
Now that it’s summer, it’s nearly game on! The official ticket lottery for the 2026–2027 season opens at 12:00 AM ET on August 1, 2026, and runs until 11:59 PM ET on August 31, 2026. Submissions sent outside of this precise window will be automatically disqualified, so make sure to set a calendar alert.
How do you enter the SNL ticket lottery?
Entering is as simple as sending an email, but you have to follow the rules perfectly. To enter, send just one email per person to SNLTICKETS@NBCUNI.COM
Inside the email, make sure to include:
- Your first and last name
- A short, fun blurb telling producers exactly why YOU want to be a part of the studio audience! (Time to channel your inner comedy writer).
What does winning get you?
If the comedy gods smile upon you, you’ll be notified by NBC and issued a set number of complimentary tickets (typically a pair).
How many tickets will you get?
Lottery winners are typically issued two (2) tickets. However, the exact number is fixed by NBC and will be specified in your confirmation email.
Can you choose your show date?
No. Tickets are assigned for a completely random show date and time during the 2026–2027 season. You could be assigned to a show weeks in advance, or given just a few days’ notice. Furthermore, you cannot swap your date or transfer your tickets to anyone else.

How hard is it to get an SNL ticket?
It is incredibly competitive. Hundreds of thousands of fans enter the lottery every August for just a few thousand available public seats across the entire season. Because demand wildly outstrips supply, entering the lottery does not guarantee tickets. You will only be notified if you are chosen.
Are the SNL tickets free?
Yes, all official SNL tickets are 100% complimentary. They cannot be sold, bartered, or auctioned. Beware of third-party websites or scalpers offering tickets for sale—these tickets are completely invalid. NBCUniversal reserves the right to revoke any ticket at any time if they suspect it was bought or sold.
Does SNL have a standby line?
Yes! If you miss the August lottery window or don’t win, the SNL Standby Line is your second chance. NBC utilizes a modern hybrid system that pairs a Thursday morning digital reservation with a Friday night in-person queue.
Step-by-Step Standby Process
- The Digital Reservation: Go to the official NBC SNL Standby Reservation page at 10:00 AM ET on the Thursday before a show week. You will choose between the 8:00 PM Dress Rehearsal or the 11:30 PM Live Broadcast and enter your name and email. Duplicate submissions will overwrite your spot, pushing you to the back of the line.
- Get Your Number: If you secure a spot before capacity is maxed out, you will receive an email with your standby reservation number. This can take several hours to arrive.
- Friday In-Person Check-In: Take your reservation email and head to the 49th Street NBC Studios Marquee. You must check in strictly between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM ET on Friday night. Staff will then organize the line in exact numerical order based on your digital reservation.
- The Midnight Wait: You must remain physically in line after checking in. No “line-sitters” are allowed, though minimal necessary bathroom breaks are permitted.
- Card Distribution: At approximately 12:01 AM ET on Saturday morning, NBC staff will distribute official standby cards to those in line.

Standby Line Rules & Prohibited Items
To keep the process fair and safe, the sidewalk rules are strict. The following items are completely prohibited:
- 🚫 Alcohol
- 🚫 Lounge chairs (Standard folding chairs are permitted)
- 🚫 Mattresses, sleeping bags, and tents
Note: A standby card gives you a place in line on Saturday night, but it still does not guarantee admission into the studio.
