If you’ve been checking your bank account, keep an eye out: the Social Security Administration (SSA) is set to release its final wave of monthly payments for February this week.
Following last week’s distribution, the next round of checks is scheduled to hit accounts on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
However, not everyone who receives benefits will see a deposit this time around. Eligibility depends entirely on your birth date.
Here is everything you need to know about who qualifies for the February 25 payment and how much you can expect to receive.
Who qualifies for the February 25 Social Security payment?
The SSA follows a strict Wednesday-based schedule to ensure payments are distributed evenly throughout the month.
According to the official 2026 payment schedule, this week’s payment is designated for retirees and beneficiaries who have a birthday falling between the 21st and the 31st of any given month.
If your birthday falls in the first twenty days of the month, you should have already received your payment earlier this February:
- Birthdays 1st – 10th: Paid on Wednesday, Feb 11.
- Birthdays 11th – 20th: Paid on Wednesday, Feb 18.
- Birthdays 21st – 31st: Paying on Wednesday, Feb 25.
Note: If you began receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997, or if you receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI), your payment was likely issued on February 3 and you will not receive a check this Wednesday.
How much will the payments be?
The amount each recipient receives varies based on their earnings history, the age at which they retired, and the 2.8% Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) that went into effect last month.
While the average monthly check for retirees is now approximately $2,071, the maximum possible payments for 2026 are:
- Retiring at age 62: $2,969
- Retiring at full retirement age: $4,152
- Retiring at age 70: $5,181
What if my payment doesn’t arrive on February 25?
The SSA suggests waiting three additional mailing days before contacting them if your payment does not arrive on the scheduled date.
If you still haven’t seen the funds by the following Monday, you can contact your local Social Security office or call the national toll-free number at 1-800-772-1213.
For New Yorkers, you can also manage your benefits and check your payment status online via the My Social Security portal.
Looking ahead: Early March 2026 Payment for SSI
Once this Wednesday’s round is complete, the SSA will shift focus to March.
Because March 1st falls on a Sunday in 2026, SSI recipients can expect to see their first March payment arrive slightly early, on Friday, February 27.
