Okay we know Punxsutawney Phil is busy being a new dad and all, but we just want to have a conversation with him about spring coming early to NYC, because this week’s forecast proves otherwise.
According to the National Weather Service, a significant winter storm is on track to bring heavy snow and gusty winds to portions of New York later this week–and no, this is not an April Fool’s joke!
The weather service’s 7-day forecast shows rain likely starting after 5am tomorrow morning (Tuesday, April 2nd), and as of now it’s expected to stick around pretty much through Friday, April 5th.
From the Ohio Valley into the Appalachians severe storms on Tuesday will bring damaging winds, hail, and even the possibility of tornadoes, while snow is forecasted to begin falling across the Midwest and Great Lakes later that day. The coastal storm will start to take shape by Wednesday, April 3rd, near the mid-Atlantic with snow continuing to fall across New England on Thursday, April 4th.
By that point the coastal storm could rapidly strengthen into a major nor’easter.
Where the snow actually falls depends on the track and strength of the storm, and as of now it’s too early to forecast the definite outcome. Though we have a feeling snow won’t actually fall in NYC specifically.
Even if we don’t see flurries, however, heavy rain and gusty winds are sure to create a major commuting headache.
