Ready for a blast from the past? SNL’s first episode is getting some airtime in honor of the sketch comedy series’ 50th anniversary.
Comedy enthusiasts of all ages will love seeing how it all began. Tune in to NBC on February 15th as you would any other Saturday night. However, come showtime at 11:30pm ET/PT, things will look a little different.
Way back when, the weekend staple was actually called NBC’s Saturday Night. The series first foray into late-night TV was hosted by George Carlin and featured musical guests Billy Preston and Janice Ian. Needless to say, the cast will look a lot different, too, with OG members like: Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Gilda Radner, and Jane Curtin.
The following day on February 16th at 8pm ET, NBC will air the anniversary special, SNL50: The Anniversary Episode, where you can expect appearances to abound: Paul McCartney, Paul Simon, Robert De Niro, John Mulaney, Steve Martin, Tom Hanks, Ayo Edebiri, Bad Bunny, and Dave Chappelle, are just a few stars stopping by for the milestone. Expect a deep dive into 50 years of sketches and LOL-worthy moments over the course of three hours.
Additionally, SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night debuted on Peacock in January. If you didn’t get a chance to make it to the four-day SNL pop-up or enjoy Timothée Chalamet’s double duty in January, there’s still plenty to look forward to!
