A new cocktail forward restaurant opens today in SoHo and they’re putting a Ukrainian twist on the classic NYC BEC.
From the team behind NYC’sThe Pineapple Club in the East Village, Slava is taking over the space formerly known as Pegu Club. Here guests will be treated to insanely delicious drinks and contemporary Ukrainian cuisine from Beverage Director, Nazar Hrab, and Head Chef, Alex Scherbyna–both of whom are Ukrainian natives.
In addition to beer, wine, and cider, Slava has a signature cocktail menu that will delight your tastebuds–there’s even a cocktail modeled after the classic Ukrainian soup Borscht, which is made with vodka, beets, heavy cream, and lemon. A Kyiv Old Fashioned is made with bourbon, chestnut orgeat, and bitters, while their Bear’s Favor is a concoction of vodka, garlic, pineapple, Montenegro, Cynar, squid ink, lime, and truffle (plus, all profits for this cocktail will be donated to Ukraine’s ongoing recovery and relief efforts).
A glance at their dinner menu is what will really make your mouth start to water though. Oysters, caviar, tuna carpaccio, and olivier salad are among starting dishes, but their BEC Pierogi is what we really have our eyes on. Served with sous vide egg yolk, sabayon, and chives, they aim to put “a SoHo twist” onto their food, and we really can’t think of a dish that crosses New Yorker and Ukrainian culture better than this!
For dessert, sour cream panna cotta with cherry syrup and sunflower brittle, and a hazelnut crunch cake with toasted caraway seeds serve as a perfect way to satisfy your sweet tooth after your meal.
This second-floor establishment is already accepting reservations for the holiday season in their 127-person dining space and are ready to host guests in their “Ukrainian cocktail den.” Reservations can be made here.
Slava is located at 77 West Houston Street and is open Monday-Sunday 5p.m. – 12a.m. We’ll see you there!
