Shaver Hall, NYC’s forthcoming food hall, is going to change the way you think about the Midtown restaurant scene.
Elegant yet inviting, the 35,000 square foot space is located within Amazon’s Hank Building, which was once the sight of the iconic Lord & Taylor department store. It’s named in honor of Dorothy Shaver, the president of Lord & Taylor and the first woman to head a multimillion-dollar business.

Soon, it will be home to 11 food stalls, a steakhouse, and a modern bodega from ZGF Architecture, who’s responsible for the Portland International Airport renovation and Google’s Spruce Goose Hangar.
A look inside Shaver Hall, NYC’s Midtown game-changer
Meant to inspire camaraderie and creativity, Shaver Hall is a modern eatery that represents an exciting new chapter for the historical spot.
“This project has been in the works for over three years, and finally getting to release these designs is a major milestone,” said Randy DeWitt, co-founder of The Food Hall Co, the brains behind the space. “We see Shaver Hall as a chance to reimagine the food hall experience in Midtown — creating a space built for connection, community, and culinary discovery, with the freedom to spotlight emerging chefs and the latest food trends.”
Design partner ICRAVE put great detail into transforming the space while honoring its roots. Expect warm jewel tones and woods, textured surfaces, and woven canopies above illuminated tenant signs.
“The rich heritage of the Lord & Taylor building provided an incredible framework,” said Daniel Ghesquiere, Associate Principal of ZGF Architecture. “Our goal was to honor the space’s legacy while fostering a dynamic and modern future for New York’s food scene.”
As far as eats, a variety of cuisines are on the menu. F&F, a pizza hotspot in Carroll Gardens, as well as the Korean-inspired chicken of Chick Chick, and Taqueria Al Pastor were all early additions who announced their participation in late 2024. Since then, Zazu’s Mediterranean street food and Pastaole have decided to hop along for the ride as well. While there, visitors will also have a chance to sample an Omakase concept and a wine and cheese bar.
The initial spring 2025 opening has moved until the end of the year, though an opening date is not yet available. Either way, we’ll be at the ready to give it a try once the doors officially open.
