Everyone is required to where face masks when out in public in NYC…and that apparently extends to the statues!
Earlier this morning, many of the famous statues that sit in Rockefeller Center were all fitted with face masks (which must be quite large to cover the giant statues’ mouths!).
The clever surprise was part of an initiative from nonprofit Association for a Better NY and commercial real estate company Tishman Speyer, as a quirky way to help welcome New Yorkers into Phase 2 of reopening.
They cover: the golden Prometheus statue that sits above the iconic ice skating rink, the Mankind Figures (Maiden and Youth), sitting on either side of Prometheus, and the Atlas statue, which sits in the International Building’s courtyard across Fifth Avenue from St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
Got to give props for the creativity! Reminds us of when someone put a face mask on the famous Wall Street “Fearless Girl” statue back when the regulation first went into effect.
