Sorry to break the news, but a potential nor’easter this weekend might make your plans a li’l bit tricky.
Saturday, October 11th, a storm is expected to brew off the coast between Florida and South Carolina. By Sunday, the storm will strengthen and hug the North Carolina coast, per CNN. It’s also set to include “coastal flooding, drenching rain, and strong winds,” so you might want to make sure to find some indoor entertainment.
Considering the last time NYC got a significant amount of rain, the subway system flooded and we broke records — the second wettest day in the city’s history — so let’s proceed cautiously.
What to know about the potential nor’easter this weekend
The storm’s strength is still TBD, as it depends on how far it tracks offshore. However, @NotifyNYC, the city’s emergency management system, has already issued warnings:
- High Wind Watch for Queens, Brooklyn: 12:00 PM on 10/12 to 6:00 AM on 10/13. 25-35 mph winds w/gusts up to 60 mph possible
- Coastal Flood Watch for Citywide: 8:00 AM on 10/12 to 6:00 PM on 10/13
It appears Sunday into Monday could potentially be the brunt of the storm, so you’ll want to take note for the morning commute. According to the @nycemergencymgt:
“We expect there to be citywide minor coastal flooding, with the possibility of moderate coastal flooding as a result of high winds. If you live in a coastal community, now is the time to review your family plan, gather supplies, and be ready to act if necessary.”
As more precautionary measures are announced, we’ll be sure to keep you informed. Stay safe, NYC.
